Jonas Musabwa Mugabe, PhD

Dr Mugabe is a Rwandan national, currently working for the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) as the Project Manager for the Accelerating Inclusive Green Growth through Agri-based Digital Innovation in West Africa (AGriDI). The project that is based in Cotonou (Benin), covers 5 West-African countries.

Prior to joining icipe, Jonas Mugabe worked at the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) as the Lead Specialist for the Research, Policy and Investment (RPIn). He also worked at FARA as the Manager of the Platform for African-European Partnerships in Agricultural Research for Development (PAEPARD) a ten-year project in research and innovation covering all parties of sub-Saharan Africa.

Before joining FARA in 2010, Jonas Mugabe was working in Rwanda as the Deputy Director General for Research at the Institut des Sciences Agronomies du Rwanda-ISAR (currently, Rwanda Agricultural Board-RAB). His main roles and responsibilities were to coordinate/integrate different research programs for a better delivery, to build the capacity of scientists, create conditions for a better partnership, mobilize financial resources and make sure technologies reach farmers and other end-users.
Jonas Mugabe taught for a decade at the Faculty of Agriculture at the National University of Rwanda-NUR (today University of Rwanda) from 1995 to 2005.

Jonas Mugabe worked with NGOs of development in the Eastern of the DR Congo in the Southern Kivu Province.
Jonas Mugabe holds an MSc and PhD in Agricultural Economics from Universite Catholique de Louvain and Faculte Universitaire des Sciences Agronomiques de Gembloux (Belgium), respectively. He also holds another MSc in Environment Management from Universite Senghor d’Alexandrie (Egypt).
Jonas Mugabe’s interest is to broker multi-stakeholder innovation partnerships by bringing together research and extension/development stakeholders.
